Med-art style two roll straightening and bench straightening allow us to straighten bars from1/8” diameter to 12” diameter. Your precision round bar starts by being pre-straightened before turning.
The principle of press straightening is illustrated below. The bar to be straightened is supported by press blocks (A), with the convex side of the bow or kink being directly under the hydraulic ram (B). Sufficient force is applied by the hydraulic ram to cause the bar to become bowed in the opposite direction, in effect straightening the bar. Deviation from straightness in round bars may be expressed either as camber (deviation from a straight line) or as total indicator reading (TIR) per unit of length.
Two roll rotary straightening is a cold finishing mill process. For extremely close tolerances, rotary and roll straightening may be followed by press straightening. Variations in the distance between roll centers and the amount of offset adjust the degree of the bend according to section size and the yield strength of material.
